Today is our 9 year wedding anniversary!
Some of you might’ve read about #MyMister (aka @PapaHypeBlog) and my whirlwind romance. With our mostly secret courthouse nuptials, there was no chance for a wedding ceremony, much less a honeymoon. We always had an intention of doing a vow renewal with a bigger ceremony for our 10 year anniversary. (Actually @PapaHypeBlog was hoping for a live concert in Prospect Park with old 90s rock bands playing and us renewing our vows on stage). Well, when we make plans, God laughs.
Last month, there was a contest announced in a Facebook group I’m in that reported that the Hard Rock Cafe was offering “One Love” Wedding and Vow Renewal Packages for Valentine’s Day at their Times Square, LA and Las Vegas locations. For $50, they offered a ceremony in a private chapel, a minister, a professional photographer to take pictures, a wedding cake with a champagne reception afterward, as well as two of their new Bob Marley Signature Series T-shirts. This, in of itself, sounded amazing. But, then they went on to say that the first 10 couples to sign up for the package at each location, would be able to upgrade to the $100 package that included a 4 day/ 3 night stay in their all inclusive resort, the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
I honestly thought everything sounded too good to be true, but I sent the email anyway asking to sign-up for the package. I figured the honeymoon package was long gone, but we’re going to be in NYC anyway for the Toy Fair and Valentine’s Day night was already taken up by the Wonder Women Awards, so we could do the renewal instead to celebrate. Then to my surprise, we found out that we were the 2nd couple to sign-up, so we were given the option to upgrade. Of course, we said, “YES!!” They emailed us with a time for our ceremony. I couldn’t believe it.
On Valentine’s Day, we headed over to the Hard Rock Cafe in Times Square after the Play Fair. When we arrived, they brought us downstairs to introduce us, and then had me go upstairs to the store to buy the package and get our shirts. I changed into my dress in the bathroom and headed over to the reception room to wait for our appointment.
Then, it was finally time for us. Here we were, in Times Square, in the Hard Rock Cafe amongst all of its historical rock memorabilia, and we renewed our vows, with our kids as our witnesses. Not quite our 10 year anniversary, and not quite a live concert with old 90s rock bands in Prospect Park, but still so perfectly magical. It was God’s answer to our plans.
Here are some pics from that day:
And now, we are preparing for our honeymoon in Punta Cana next month; our first vacation in our entire marriage without kids! (And before you ask, we have the hotel and flight confirmations in hand, so this is really happening!) We hope you will follow along with us April 16-19!
